In Maribor the Award for animation goes to Jose and Aljaž Jovanovič in the performance The Wishing Table

In the 19th puppet festival Poletni lutkovni pristan taking place in Maribor, the professional jury represented by Ms. Eva Bodingbauer, Ms. Ivana Djilas and Ms. Tatjana Doma attended all Slovenian performances taking part in the festival. Among other awards also the Award for best animation is presented every year. This year the recipients are the actors Jose and Aljaž Jovanovič in their performance The Wishing Table produced by MINI TEATER from Ljubljana.

Argumentation of the Jury:

»Their puppet animation is other than merely an imitation of movements performed by real people; through the movement of a puppet also different character’s emotions are conveyed. Even when both puppeteers alternate in performing animation of the same character, this character is brought to life as one - always preserving the same voice. Their interpretation corresponds to the visual image of the puppet and to their voices. They both succeed perfectly in harmonizing the language rhythm with the movements of the puppet. The use of the puppet’s movement while working with the puppet is remarkable and witty – e.g. the actor’s slamming the door after the puppet exits represents an excellent comic element within the entire staging. And even when one actor is animating three puppets at the same time, he succeeds in preserving all three characters very much alive. Both actors brought a great deal of joy into their acting yet without casting a shadow upon the puppets – they simply transferred their joy into the puppets and brought them to life. »
